FAQ’s

Do you think you can help me?

We do our best to help every client/ patient who comes to us. We apply our best skills, knowledge, intuition and compassion into helping those who seek our help. We are able to help many.  But true healing comes from within you.  In many ways we are just instruments of a universe/ higher power helping you to become well.

Is it possible to completely get off meds?  How long would that take?

We cannot be specific about your particular situation, however in most cases it is possible and desirable to get off medications, particularly if they have stopped working or have caused significant side effects. There is no such biological condition as “Prozac deficiency”, nor any other medication deficiency condition for that matter.  Dependence on medication has often been artificially created by the continuation of the medication itself.  Often when attempting to get off medication, you may start experiencing withdrawal symptoms that are often reminiscent of the symptoms that presented before medication was started; as a result you may falsely believe that you need to continue with the medication for the rest of your life, but this is not true. The research done on the positive effects of medication is for short term use, not for years, as is the case for many patients. The length of the withdrawal process depends on what medication you are taking and for how long, and your current physical and emotional strength.  In general for every year you’ve been on medication you may need a month to get off. There is no need to withdraw quickly and cause physical and emotional suffering.  Getting off medication is a physical, emotional and spiritual healing journey of liberation and transformation.

How long would I have to take supplements?

Most of the supplements we recommend you will need only during the period of healing, or during your withdrawal from medications.  After the process of healing is complete you will not need the majority of the supplements.  The caveat is your commitment to health and good organic nutrition.  A healthy, nutritious diet should provide you with most of the nutrients you need.  Additional supplementation is optional.

Do you order blood tests?  If so, what kind? Do you do the blood tests in your office?

We order a variety of tests depending on your situation.  Most of the blood and urine tests are done in conventional laboratories, but we also order some additional testing that conventional doctors do not, such as neurotransmitter testing or toxic metal testing.  These tests are done at home but sent to out of state laboratories.  Generally we do not take blood for testing in our office.

What is muscle testing?

Muscle testing or kinesiological testing is a technique based on the body’s ability to respond to stress, the same principal that applies to polygraph testing and biofeedback. The premise is that the body feels and responds to anything that happens either inside or outside of it. We, as biological beings, possess the ability to be very precise measuring tools. Muscle testing is generally done by exerting pressure on the patient’s arm and observing the response.  It is completely non invasive and a safe way to discover information about many things that are happening around us and within us.  There are quite a few studies showing its effectiveness and accuracy.  In our practice, we use this tool when it is needed as long as a patient is comfortable with the concept.

Do you treat autism?

I have a few autistic patients and will start seeing more autistic patients in the fall.  There is a lot that can be done for these patients.

Can MS be treated with bee venom?

MS can be successfully treated by using bee venom therapy, but only as part of a more comprehensive approach.

Do you use acupuncture as part of your treatments?

I use acupuncture only as a supportive part of my treatment, particularly when treating substance abuse.

Do you treat Alzheimer’s?

Yes I do, but it takes considerable effort and time to successfully help the patient.

What is your treatment plan for ADD or ADHD?

There are a number of ways to treat children and adults with ADD and ADHD.  The most important issue, however, is to discover what is causing the condition.  Quite often, treatment can be as simple as changing to a diet that eliminates foods that are causing sensitivity. Very often, ADHD can be a manifestation of toxicity, particularly to toxic metals; or it can be due to chronic illness or side effects from medication.  A number of herbs and supplements have proved helpful in the treatment of ADD and ADHD. In general, however, it is most important to treat the underlying condition and not just the symptom.

What is your success rate with patients in general?

I am quite successful in helping those who have the patience and determination necessary to resolve their issues and the commitment to staying healthy and vibrant.  Many of those who are steadfast in following the prescribed treatment plan for several months can eventually be healed completely. It is a much bigger challenge to help those who are expecting instant results.  There are many ways to help with pain and suffering for a short time, but… only a long term commitment can provide a long term, lasting result.

Do you do neural therapy?

Yes, I am one of only a handful of practitioners in the US who does neural therapy. There are, however, many more in Europe, particularly in Germany, who use this forgotten, yet most effective, safe and easy to administer treatment modality.

How do the services provided by Jane Ferrari differ from yours?  Can she also prescribe meds?

Jane Ferrari, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Certified Holistic Nurse, works together with me in the office.  She does many of the treatment procedures and diagnostics that I do.  We discuss all her cases and together seek the best treatment plan possible.  She prescribes medications when it is indicated.

Do you accept credit cards for payment?

Yes, we accept Master Card, Visa and Debit cards.

Do you do thyroid testing?

When treating thyroid conditions, accurate and comprehensive blood testing is essential. We usually order a comprehensive thyroid panel that includes: traditionally ordered tests, such as TSH, T-4 and T-3;  Free T3 and R T3 (reverse T3); and tests for autoimmune thyroid condition, Antithroglobulin  and TPO Ab (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies).  One of the most important tests, however, is temperature testing.  If you take your oral temperature today and it is consistently below 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, you may have low thyroid function.

How successful are you in treating Bipolar Disorder (Manic–Depressive Illness)?

Bipolar disorder has become a “sexy” diagnosis in the last 7 years. For some unknown reason it is being diagnosed 20 to 40 times more frequently than ever before.  Most patients diagnosed with Bipolar disorder are on several psychotropic medications and experience multiple side effects. Quite often I find that the diagnosis is inaccurate and the patient does not need to be on mood stabilizers or antipsychotic medications.   It is also well known that antidepressant medication can induce manic symptoms.  There are some very effective treatment strategies for even the most difficult bipolar patients. Treatment frequently includes a combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. In addition, it is important to assess the patients’ current medical condition and help them restore their health, choose a healthy life style, and get off medications that are not essential to their health.

How successful you are in treating schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is one of the most challenging conditions to treat. At times, I may disagree with the diagnostic label that has been accompanying the patient for many years.  In cases where the diagnosis has been incorrect, the patient can get off medications gradually and substitute with herbs and supplements.

If the patient is willing, we can look at the causes of the condition and attempt to address and resolve them. There are some supplements and vitamins, particularly B 3 or niacin, that are known to help.

There are some toxins, particularly mercury that can create symptoms resembling schizophrenia. Eliminating these toxins can help to resolve the condition.

In all cases, I strive to reduce the current medication as much as possible and help to restore normal body functioning, particularly reducing excessive body weight.

Can I see Dr. Gurevich for the initial consultation and then Jane for follow up appointments?

Yes. We do it quite often to accommodate patients for understandable economic reasons. Jane and I discuss all of her cases. Knowing the patient personally helps me to assist Jane in our quest for the best treatment to help the patient heal.

What are some of the signs of metal toxicity?

Metal toxicity manifests itself in many ways.  Mercury is one of the most toxic among all metals in the biological world.  Most frequent manifestations of chronic mercury toxicity includes insomnia, anxiety, irritability, withdrawal, fatigue, depression and paranoia.  Medical manifestations are also numerous as toxicity interferes with multiple enzyme functioning.  Conditions may manifest with gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, autoimmune conditions, chronic pain and others.

Do you do IV chelation?  What chelation treatment do you recommend and how long does it take?

Chelation is the process of eliminating toxic metals from the body. Toxic metals can be the cause of multiple physical and emotional chronic conditions.

IV (Intra- venous) chelation is done primarily for heart conditions. It is a quite expensive and time consuming process primarily removing lead from the heart plugs and arteries.  It is quite effective for these conditions and is done with EDTA (look at my web –site for more information).

I do a less intrusive form of chelation using oral agents and suppositories. My primary goal is to eliminate mercury and other toxic metals and improve the anti-oxidation process in the body. This method usually lasts 4 months to several years, depending on the severity of the condition and the level of toxic metal poisoning.

I am so sensitive to all medications – can you help me?

Yes we can. Most of our patients have been seeking conventional and unconventional treatment modalities and have exhausted their patience.  The usual causes for such severe sensitivity are toxicity from the multiple pollutants surrounding us, food sensitivity, medications, and/or physical, emotional or sexual trauma. Our approach is complex and comprehensive.  We work as a team in which you are the key member. We rely not only on various laboratory testing, but also on findings from muscle testing and intuitive understanding.

I have side effects to many medications.  Is your treatment for me?

Most of our patients have exhausted the route of conventional medication. They suffer from multiple side effects and a lack of response to medications. We offer several unconventional alternatives to medication.  We also offer safe ways to get off medication completely.

Do you use live bees for bee venom therapy (apitherapy)?  If not, what do you use and how effective is the treatment compared to using live bees?

Bee venom therapy is one of the oldest therapies in the world.  Even Alexander the Great used it to treat himself.  In most cases, therapy is done using live bees, which has its advantages and drawbacks. One of the main disadvantages is that you never know how much bee venom you actually get from the bee – it depends on the time of the year, how long you keep the bee venom sack, etc. It is also quite painful and the bee always dies after the sting.

The bee venom I use for injections has been carefully collected and measured by titration by the only man considered to be the “gold standard” in the industry, Michael Simics. He makes homeopathic solutions of bee venom which are FDA-approved.  All injections are of uniform strength and the bee venom is diluted with procaine (an anesthetic), so there is minimal pain.

Which treatment is better, homeopathic bee venom injection or live bee sting, is a topic for endless discussion.  There is no definite study that answers this question because there is no money to be made in using bee venom therapy. There are very few people in North America familiar with bee venom therapy and an MD licensure is necessary in order to do injections.  To the best of my knowledge, I am the only physician on the East Coast who is trained to use this effective treatment method.

Where are you located? How do I get there?
